Learn how to properly store a mixed cigar sampler like the Asylum Time Capsule. Get step-by-step advice on humidor setup, separation, and aging to keep each blend fresh.

Quick Answer

Store your Asylum Time Capsule sampler in a stable humidor at 65-70% RH and 65-70°F, keeping individual cigars separated by wrapper type to prevent flavor transfer.

Why a Mixed Sampler Needs Special Care

A sampler like the Asylum Time Capsule contains multiple blends—from the original Asylum Seven to the newer Asylum 13 Anniversary—each with its own wrapper, binder, and filler. If stored together without separation, stronger cigars can impart unwanted flavors onto milder ones over time. That's why dedicated storage steps matter more than with a box of identical sticks.

How to Store Your Asylum Time Capsule Sampler

1. Set Up a Stable Humidor Environment: Season your humidor to 65-70% relative humidity at 65-70°F. Use a digital hygrometer to confirm stability for at least 48 hours before introducing the sampler. A sudden drop or spike in humidity can crack wrappers or invite mold. Check the hygrometer daily for the first week to catch fluctuations early.
2. Separate Cigars by Wrapper Type: Remove the cellophane from each cigar (or keep it on if you prefer slower aging) and group them by wrapper shade: Connecticut, Maduro, or Habano. Place each group in a different cedar tray or divider. This prevents stronger Maduro oils from seeping into milder wrappers. If you don't have dividers, use cedar sheets as separators inside a single tray.
3. Rotate and Inspect Monthly: Every 30 days, gently rotate the cigars so different blends experience slightly different airflow. Check for any signs of plume, mold, or beetle holes. Mold appears as fuzzy white or green spots; wipe it off immediately and isolate affected cigars. A quick monthly inspection takes two minutes and can save an entire sampler.
